Faux Fur & Lilac

When the weather turns warm for a couple days, but you're already in the holiday spirit, you learn to improvise! As a Californian, I am way too familiar with this situation, but by now I'm a pro at creating the perfect holiday outfit for battling the heat. 

As I was styling this faux fur and lilac combo, I realized that this look would be the perfect casual holiday party look! The coated black pants make it edgy and more dressed up while the top brings a casual vibe to it. Then the faux fur scarf, strappy patent black heels, and jeweled headband are the perfect accents, not only pulling the entire look together, but reminding everyone that it's a holiday party!! Time to celebrate! I think that an outfit like this is a great alternative to wearing a skirt or dress and it is definitely warmer for the legs. If it's chilly and you need a coat to go on top of the shirt or if you want to dress the look up a little more, just add a fitted black blazer and you're good to go.

While everyone is already talking about holiday gifts and decorations, all that's on my mind is Thanksgiving! While I try to be thankful everyday, I think it's good that we celebrate a holiday that reminds us of all we have to be grateful for. Plus, who doesn't love eating yummy food in the company of family and friends?! Anyways, when I realized that Thanksgiving is only a week away, I decided it would be perfect to share some of my hostess gift ideas since many people go to others' homes to celebrate. 

I think that your hostess would love any of these gifts! This pumpkin souffle candle smells heavenly   and the See's Candies seasonal pie truffles sound so good!! I also love giving little ring dishes like this one as hostess gifts. You could even pair it with something else like these colorful napkins (which I would use as decorative towels) and put them in a cello bag tied with raffia. Hello lovelies!! Can you believe we are already almost halfway through November...like what?! Someone posted on Instagram yesterday that there are only 6 more Saturdays until Christmas and I'm kind of freaking out even though I'm one who puts off shopping until after Thanksgiving. Does that make me totally not in the 21st century? I just think we need to focus on one holiday at a time and I love Thanksgiving. Anyways, for those of you that are starting your shopping or are on the look out for some cute holiday pieces to wear to upcoming parties and gatherings, I've picked out some items that I think would be super cute. Now I know that I picked out two dresses here and many of you  experience chilly weather for the next few months, but I love wearing dresses for the holidays. Just style  them with a bunch of other layers and you're good to go! I'm currently obsessing over these heels and I think they would look amazing with this black turtleneck dress and a bold wine lip. It doesn't count as Christmas shopping if I go buy myself some of these for holiday events coming up...right??

Graphic Tees & Denim Jeans

Some days are just meant for t-shirts. While I think that this is totally acceptable, I'm always looking for more stylish ways to wear these tees, ways that make it look like I tried a little harder on my outfit.  


Today I'm sharing my tips on how to style a tee in a fashion that I rock ALL the time! It is casual, yet put together and totally appropriate for occasions like lunch with friends or running errands. 

My first tip involves the actual t-shirt itself. Since I already have the basic white, black, and gray tees and sometimes get sick of wearing them, lately I've been on the hunt for graphic tees to mix into my wardrobe. I think that they instantly make an outfit more chic (as long as they have the right saying on them!)

Secondly, I believe in pairing at least a few different pieces of jewelry with the look. Doing so can definitely dress up a look and for the minute that it took you to put on the pieces, it is totally worth it. I'm loving this Kendra Scott statement necklace! Usually statement necklaces tend to be shorter so I think this one is unique since its chain is so long. Thirdly, choose a large purse or at least one that makes a statement. I have been using this Dooney & Bourke City Barlow bag a ton lately and it's perfect to pair with a tee because it's simple, yet bold since for a crossbody it's rather big. You could even choose a purse that has a bright color. Bright colors make things instantly fashionable right?! 

Fourthly, I love wearing distressed denim jeans. I think everyone needs a pair in their closet, even though at first buying a pair of jeans that are partly destroyed seems odd. Once you get past that, you will totally understand why I like them so much. They make an outfit a little less plain and a little more edgy. 

Lastly, booties!! I used to be anti-booties (I have no idea why!), but these days I wear them on a weekly basis. With a graphic tee, like in this look, they are totally casual, but like the other items I mentioned, they just make an outfit seem more put together. 







I hope these tips help! It's amazing how you can transform an outfit by throwing on a few extra pieces and making small changes like wearing distressed jeans instead of plain ones.

Get Effortless Curls

I absolutely love the look of curled hair! It's a style that is so laid-back, yet put together. Unfortunately, as I'm sure many of you know, achieving the perfect curl can often be difficult and frustrating ~ oh the struggle of being a girl ;) Today, I sharing my steps to achieve effortless curls using Sultra's the Bombshell 1-inch rod curling iron. 


Before jumping into how I create the look, I wanted to let you all know that I've been loving this curling wand! It creates curls that are long-lasting and beautiful. While below I'm sharing a step by step tutorial, if you want a detailed review of the curling wand as well as a video tutorial for this look, scroll to the bottom of this post! Also, I must mention that this product does come with a cute pink glove to protect your hand from being burnt if it hits the curling wand. For this post I didn't use it because it was too difficult when I was touching the camera, but I highly recommend using it!



1. To start, I sectioned off the upper half of my hair and clamped it up using a hair claw. This allowed me to easily be able to separate pieces of hair for curling.


2. Next, it was time to begin the curling process. I sectioned off a portion of my hair that was about 2 inches wide (you could go more or less depending on the thickness of your hair) and brushed it through to make sure there were no tangles.


3. Taking the portion of hair I just brushed in one hand, I then held the curling wand upside down at a slight angle in the other hand. I then placed the wand (the part of it nearest to my hand holding it) close to the roots of my hair.



4. After placing the wand near my roots, I began curling it by wrapping the section of hair around the wand in a spiral fashion and holding the hair in place for 3-8 seconds (depending on how much hair I had wrapped around). If you have thicker hair you may have to hold it slightly longer and if you have thinner hair you may have to hold it slightly less.



5. Once the lower section is completely curled, I sectioned off the upper portion of my hair once again, but this time only kept the right sign of my hair pinned up, leaving the left side down to curl.


6. After the left side of my hair was completely curled, I then took down the rest of my hair and finished curling it all.


7. If you like, you can lightly spray your hair with some hairspray to hold it in place! This is definitely not a necessary step, but sometimes I do it!
